2Praise the LORD, my soul, and don’t forget all his benefits,

3who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases,

EDITORIAL REFLECTION · NOT SCRIPTURE

Before you move on

The speaker calls on himself not to forget God’s benefits. The gifts named concern forgiveness, healing, rescue, compassion and renewed strength. Gratitude begins with remembrance and reaches beyond favorable circumstances. Pause where a gift awakens a memory. If a word instead brings longing or pain, that too can be named. The psalm does not have to be rewritten as a description of your present circumstances.

Read the passage again if you want to. Notice which word, action, or question stays with you. You can finish a reading without having finished thinking about it.

A MOMENT TO REFLECT

Which of the gifts recalls help you have received? Which remains a request for you right now?
